Rena Moore
Credible Messenger, Organizer
510-426-0362
A long-time resident of Contra Costa County, Rena Moore grew up in Richmond, CA, and now resides in Antioch. She learned of the Safe Return Project (SRP) when she met Tamisha Torres-Walker, Executive Director, as a community member in Antioch through Rubicon Programs after graduating from the Foundations Workshop through Rubicon Programs in 2021.
Tamisha encouraged Rena to apply for the Safe Return Project's Richard Boyd Fellowship (RBF) and Collective Impact Institute (CII) programs as a formerly incarcerated person. Rena was eager to join the RBF and CII because she wanted to grow and get involved with helping people like her overcome the many obstacles one faces as formerly incarcerated. Rena knew the struggles of being a person with a criminal history and how hard it is to find employment and housing due to a criminal record. Rena completed SRP's Collective Impact Institute in August 2022 and, most recently, the Richard Boyd Fellowship in June 2023.
Rena also received her certificate in Peer Support from the Spirit Program at Contra Costa College at the end of July 2023, which taught her how to provide Peer Support and navigate through Contra Costa Behavioral Health's system of care, which includes Mental Health Services, Housing and Homeless Services, Alcohol and Other Drug Services, Health Services, and recovery/resiliency-oriented techniques and principles.
Rena joined the SRP team in June 2023 as a Credible Messenger/Organizer helping with community organizing efforts in Antioch, CA. She works with Reimagine Antioch to help advocate for positive change within the Antioch community and is a member of the Housing and Homelessness Working Group within Reimagine Antioch. Rena also sits on the Community Advisory Board on Public Safety Realignment in Contra Costa County and the Participant Advisory Board for Rubicon Programs.
Rena spends time with her six children and grandchild in her free time in her free time and volunteers as much as possible doing homeless outreach.
